Making more money is high on the priority list for every reprographics shop owner, and the next webinar in APDSP’s 2018 webinar series focuses on increasing profits through wide-format scanning. (Click here to register for the webinar.)
The webinar, scheduled for March 13 at 10 a.m. CST, will be led by Steve Andrikut of Image Access. Steve answered some questions about the webinar, and the scanning market in general, in this Q&A:
APDSP: What will the focus be in the webinar on March 13?
Andrikut: The focus will be new revenue stream opportunities and the markets and products that will allow those opportunities to become reality. The major product focus will be the WideTEK 36ART.
APDSP: Who will be joining you on the webinar?
Andrikut: Christian Cummins of Idaho Blueprint in Boise will join me and discuss his success with large format scanning projects using out WideTEK 36 ART and WideTEK 25 flatbed scanner.
APDSP: As you visit with reprographics shops in your travels, what general trends are you noticing as this new year gets underway? Are people optimistic or pessimistic about business?
Andrikut: Businesses are embracing new technologies that are enabling the development of new revenue streams. At the same time there is an uptick in investing in core business applications as well. This is evident because of the success of our new fine art scanner, the WideTEK 36 ART, in addition to Image Access setting a new record in sales for our production wide format scanners, the WideTEK 44 and 48. EOY sales were the highest since we began selling our products in North America. We are stretched out to build them fast enough! People are definitely optimistic about business.
APDSP: Specifically about large-format scanning, are you noticing any trends? Have any new markets emerged recently that reprographics shops could tap?
Andrikut: There are many more opportunities for scanning as a service vs. the traditional print for pay work. The reprographics and reseller customers of Image Access are realizing there is money to be made beyond the traditional AEC market. New/newer markets to be tapped include bound document, art and artifact and flatbed scanning applications. These markets are literally right in your backyard and can be highly profitable.
APDSP: Image Access has a new model coming out soon, right? Is this replacing an existing model, or is it completely new? What makes it special?
Andrikut: The WideTEK 48 CL is our newest wide format scanner. It replaces the WideTEK 48C. It is the fastest 48 inch CIS color scanner on the market with color accuracy superior to competing CCD scanners. It can run in production applications and will have a significantly lower price point than its predecessor. The design is an extended version of the successful WideTEK 36CL which was introduced in 2016 and has already redefined the speed and quality of entry level wide format scanners.
APDSP: And when will the new model be on the market?
Andrikut: Shipments begin at the end of January to fulfill existing orders. New orders will be served with a lead time of 4 weeks.
