The APDSP Index was slightly down for AEC business in the first quarter of 2017, but it jumped significantly for non-AEC business. The Index was 60 for AEC business, compared to 62 in the fourth quarter of 2016; and 75 for non-AEC business, compared to 54 during the fourth quarter of 2016. Any number over 50 indicates growth, so these figures show that growth continues in both areas, but it has definitely slowed in the non-AEC areas.
In year-to-year comparison, the Index was down in AEC business and up in non-AEC. The Index stood at 72 for AEC business during the first quarter of 2016, and 70 for non-AEC business.
The first quarter 2017 Index was based on a survey of IRgA members sent in June 2017. Fifty-one reprographics shops answered the survey. Of the respondents, 22 reported growth in their AEC business over the previous quarter, compared to 12 who said it went down. For non-AEC business, 30 reported growth, compared to 4 who saw a decline.
Specific details about the survey, such as a geographic breakdown and a detailed breakdown by type of job, will be emailed to respondents who completed the survey and paid APDSP members. Look for the next survey in August.
