The APDSP Index was essentially flat for AEC business in the fourth quarter of 2016, but it dropped significantly for non-AEC business. The Index was 62 for AEC business, compared to 63 in the third quarter; and 54 for non-AEC business, compared to 69 during the third quarter. Any number over 50 indicates growth, so these figures show that growth continues in both areas, but it has definitely slowed in the non-AEC areas.
In year-to-year comparison, the Index was up in AEC business and down in non-AEC. The Index stood at 56 for AEC business during the fourth quarter of 2015, and 72 for non-AEC business.
The fourth quarter 2016 Index was based on a survey of IRgA members sent in February 2017. Forty reprographics shops answered the survey. Of the respondents, 18 reported growth in their AEC business over the previous quarter, compared to 9 who said it went down. For non-AEC business, 12 reported growth, compared to 9 who saw a decline.
Specific details about the survey, such as a geographic breakdown and a detailed breakdown by type of job, will be emailed to respondents who completed the survey and paid APDSP members. Look for the next survey in April.
