The educational program at the joint ERA/IRgA Convention in April has been firmed up, and includes several sessions on how reprographics firms can profit from document management, 3D printing and scanning, and large-format color, and how they can expand their markets through social media.
Keynote to Focus on Repro Role in Reshaping AEC
Paul Doherty, an AEC visionary with ties to the reprographics community, will discuss how the reprographics industry has been entrusted with the “digital DNA” of the built environment, and is poised to play a vital role in the changes now reshaping AEC. 3D Printing/Scanning
3D printing and scanning, a growing topic in the reprographics community, will be the focus of a presentation by Phil Magenheim, director of business development - 3D services for the AEC markets for Direct Dimensions, a firm that provides 3D printing solutions to a number of industries. Brenda Smith, distribution channel manager for 3D Systems, and 3D printer manufacturer, will also discuss applications for 3D printers in reprographics shops.
“This presentation will present information and options for reprographics firms to learn about the opportunities in the 3D space,” Magenheim says. “We will examine many of these challenges, considerations, and potential business directions for companies looking to take their place in the 3D market.”

Large-Format Color – Focus on Memjet
Memjet inkjet printing is poised to change large-format printing with its extreme speed and single-pass technology. Wide-format expert John Switzer, co-founder of DigiPrint Academy, will discuss the technology, its advantages and limitations, and its potential impact on reprographics.
Social Media - Practical Tips for Reprographics Shops
IRgA managing director Ed Avis will discuss how a reprographics firm can use social media to expand its market in this increasingly digital, youthful world. This session will provide practical tips designed specifically for reprographics shops.
Avis has been involved in web and social media marketing for two decades, but he still holds an “outsider” view of the technology so he won’t bore the audience with meaningless buzzwords or geektalk. Expect to leave his presentation with five to ten tips you can apply immediately.
