2Q 2014 IRgA Index, Non-AEC Market
The reprographics market showed continued growth during the second quarter of 2014, but not quite at the pace of the first quarter. The IRgA Index, which measures growth in the reprographics industry quarter-by-quarter, stood at 71 for services to the traditional AEC market and 82 for services to the non-AEC market for the second quarter of this year. Any number over 50 indicates growth, so these numbers show strong growth. However, the first quarter numbers were 77 and 85, respectively, so the growth rate has declined.
The second quarter 2014 Index was based on a survey of IRgA members sent in early August. Fifty-four reprographics shop members answered the survey. Of the respondents, 28 reported growth in their AEC business over the previous quarter; 19 said that business was flat compared to the previous quarter; and 6 reported a drop in that business (one respondent did not answer the question). For non-AEC business, 36 reported growth, 17 said business was flat, and 1 reported a decline.
The survey also asked questions about specific areas of business. Large-format color printing showed the strongest growth among respondents, followed by scanning/archiving, and then by color CAD printing. The biggest losers were small-format printing, which almost half of respondents said had dropped in the quarter, followed by large-format monochrome printing, which dropped for about one-third of respondents.
Specific details about the survey, such as a geographic breakdown and a detailed breakdown by type of job, will be emailed to respondents who completed the survey and Bronze, Silver, and Gold members. Look for the next survey in late October.
